The Truth About TruthScape - An Introduction The Goals of TruthScape and Why I Created It

There are many “fan sites” devoted to RuneScape, where you can get lots of information on various aspects of the game. This includes guides to quests and skills, tips for making money and so forth. Well, TruthScape does have some useful information on advanced gameplay, especially for higher-level players. But its primary focus is not on raising skills, killing monsters and finishing quests. TruthScape is mainly about educating players, potential players and the parents and family members of players about the negative aspects and dangers of RuneScape, and how to protect yourself from them, as well as how to be a productive, positive member of the gaming community.

RuneScape has exploded in popularity, resulting in millions of new players coming into the game without really understanding very much about the gaming environment. Particularly troublesome is the fact that so many of the players are children and teens, who either play without parental knowledge, or who play without much supervision because the game is widely considered to be “safe for kids”.

The reality is that while RuneScape has many positive attributes, it also has a large number of negative aspects and dangers for players, especially children. And unfortunately, the information about this “darker side” of the game is almost impossible to find unless you are already experienced enough in the game to know where to find it. The result is that thousands of players, again mostly children, are set up to have awful experiences that can be quite damaging.

TruthScape contains information that new and potential players and parents need to know, including the following:

• How to stay safe, both physically and emotionally, when playing the game.

• Information on the dangers of the Wilderness.
  
  
• How to avoid getting scammed out of your items or account, or lured into getting killed.

• Assistance on how to deal with abusive and unfriendly players.
  
  
• Recommendations on how to be a good player and a positive influence on the RuneScape community.
  
  
• A comprehensive glossary of RuneScape terms and jargon, to help you understand the slang used within the game.

And yes, some useful gaming guides are in here too, as well as special reports on topics that I think RuneScape players will want to read about. J

Please note that I focus on the negative here only because nobody else does, and I think people need to understand those issues. I am not saying that RuneScape is all negative—it has many positive aspects, and is certainly a fun game when approached from the right perspective. I still play and so do my kids, but you need to really understand it from all sides to get the most from it.
