Typical Causes of RuneScape In-Game Password and Account Scamming

There are password scammers operating within the RuneScape game who have only one objective: to find out your password and other information so they can steal your account. There are many tricks that they use to try to get your password, and the bad guys come up with new ones all the time. So how can you protect yourself?

In this subsection I describe the most common ways that victims get scammed out of their passwords within the RuneScape game itself. I first describe the dangers of giving out personal information (including recovery question answers). I then explain some of the nasty ways that scammers try to get passwords, such as by pretending to be Jagex staff members or by tempting victims with bogus offers.

I've got a handy short-cut for you though. Would you like to skip this entire subsection? I can boil the whole thing down to one “commandment”, if you will: Don't give anyone your password, PIN number or answers to recovery questions, ever, for any reason, no matter who they claim to be.

That's it. Pretty simple, isn't it? Because the only way that anyone can get your account information within the game is if you give it to them. There is never any reason to give this information to anyone in the game. So don't!
