The RuneScape economy is very important to most serious gamers, but until now, attempts to really understand what is happening with prices of materials and equipment have been hampered by a lack of useful information. The TruthScape Weighted Index of RuneScape Prices, abbreviated TWIRP, is a project that aims to rectify this situation by accurately tracking the prices of essential RuneScape items, and portraying trends in a way that is helpful to gamers and anyone else interested in MMORPG market dynamics.

TWIRP goes beyond the typical price index in three essential ways. First, despite the singular form of the word “index” in the name, TWIRP actually consists of dozens of indexes and subindexes, which show the impact of price changes on various skills, activities and particular aspects of the game. Second, TWIRP indexes are weighted to match the relative importance of different items in gameplay, and the relative importance of lower-level indexes on higher-level measurements. And finally, TWIRP is designed so that its indexes reflect how the game is actually played, with input costs and output costs tracked separately in order to show what the net impact is on the profitability of most skills and pursuits.

TWIRP aims to do a lot, and so there is quite a bit to read if you really want to know how it works.
