TruthScape Special Reports - Why the ZMI Ourania Altar Will Change How You Runecraft

Published: September 19, 2007

On September 18, 2007, Jagex introduced an exciting new feature to the Runecrafting skill in RuneScape. No, it wasn’t the long-anticipated blood altar, though it does let RuneScape players craft blood runes for the first time. Wait… that’s a bit confusing, isn’t it. Well, such is life whenever the forces of the evil god Zamorak get involved with magic. Yes, the Zamorak Magical Institute (ZMI) has discovered a new Runecrafting altar, one so wild and unpredictable that it can produce any and all types of runes at once—even ones above your Runecrafting level!

In its first few days, I have seen many people criticize this new feature, saying that it is not worth using, or no better than conventional Runecrafting, or that you only get bad runes from it because what you get is random. I decided to test it out for myself and compare it to other methods, and what I have found will dispel these and other myths.

In this special report, I’ll tell you all about the new Ourania Runecrafting altar, also known as the ZMI altar. I’ll begin with an introduction to the altar and a general description of it, where it’s located and what it’s all about. I’ll discuss some of the issues involved in getting to the altar and using it in the most efficient way, and describe my preferred method. I’ll then present you with test results from using the altar, both from my personal experience and that of others who have used it. I’ll compare the Ourania altar to other common Runecrafting methods in terms of cost and experience gained, and finally, summarize the altars pros and cons and tell you whether or not I recommend using it.

NOTE: This special report is on a very new RuneScape feature, which increases the chances that Jagex may change it after publication. Be sure to stay tuned for possible update.

NOTE: Thanks to Slak 22 and “D” for providing higher level Runecrafting data.
