Over the last four days I have spent a significant amount of time researching RuneScape’s new Dueling Tournaments minigame, which is an expansion to the existing Duel Arena. My hope was to write up a comprehensive report on the new feature, similar to the ones I have written on the Assist System and Ourania Runecrafting Altar, emphasizing how you can most easily enjoy it and benefit from it.

Unfortunately, after spending many hours engaging in duels and trying out different aspects of the new feature, the only conclusion I can really reach is that this feature simply has too many flaws and problems to be something I’d recommend most players spend much time on. It’s worth checking out, to be sure, and in its current state it may appeal to certain players—especially very high level ones who are also wealthy. For most others, though, it’s little more than an exercise in frustration.

I had delayed a report hoping that Jagex would see some of the most obvious problems and fix them before the weekend, but they did not. I am expecting that they will make some changes next week; in that (perhaps vain) hope, this article doesn’t go into as much detail as I normally would in terms of telling how best to use the new system. Instead, the immature current state of the minigame requires me to just provide an overview of how it works in general terms, along with an explanation of what some of the problems are, and many ideas for how they could be fixed.

NOTE: Just to be clear, this report is about the new tournament system, not the changes to regular one-on-one dueling; I discussed some of those issues in Soapbox article #2.

NOTE: As mentioned above, this special report is on a very new RuneScape feature, which increases the chances of possible inaccuracies, or the potential that that Jagex may change it after publication. Be sure to stay tuned for possible updates.
