Herbs are obviously a critical, even central part of the Herblore skill, but they can’t do the job alone. Making potions requires vials of liquids and a wide array of secondary ingredients, and there are also non-potion products in the Herblore skill that use their own unique items. Not only do you have to get these items in addition to your herbs, but in many ways, they are even more of a challenge to acquire—especially if you don’t want to just buy them from other players.

Consider that there are only 15 types of herbs, and you get most of the ones you use via only two basic methods: combat and Farming. In contrast, there are over two dozen secondary ingredients, and many different methods are used to get them. Some of these items involve really unique multiple-step processes as well, such as using special equipment to generate them, or even other skills. This means that knowing how to get secondary ingredients and other items efficiently is arguably even more important than knowing the best ways to get herbs.

In this section I will share with you all of my best techniques for getting non-herb components for Herblore. I start by laying out all of the methods for getting vials of water and coconut milk to start potion making. I describe general methods for obtaining all of the secondary ingredients you’ll need, and tips for gathering them more efficiently. I then provide detailed methods and analysis for collecting essential secondary ingredients like snape grass, bird’s nests and unicorn horns. Finally, I conclude with information on getting special ingredients like swamp tar, roe and caviar.
