Herblore is the art and science of
learning about herbs and making useful products from them. The skill
is best known for being the method by which players can make potions,
vials of colorful liquids that boost skill levels, cure poison, restore
lost Prayer points and much more. Herblore is not a skill you learn
in order to make money; rather, it is a good example of a skill that
has many non-financial
motivations for you to train it. Chief
among these are independence and the ability to complete essential quests.
Some RuneScape skills are rather
simple to understand, while others are much more complex; Herblore,
though, is really both. Conceptually speaking, Herblore is all
about herbs and secondary ingredients, and learning how to combine them
with vials of water or other liquid to make potions. Thats what
most Herblore guides focus on: they show you the items, give you a list
of potions you can make, and send you on your way.
But as anyone who has spent time
in the game knows, this simplicity quickly evaporates when you actually
begin to train the skill. Youll quickly find that you need lots
of herbs but arent really sure where to get them; that those secondary
ingredients are expensive; and that most of the potions you make sell
for far less than the materials cost. Its no wonder, then, that
so many players give up on Herblore due to its perceived difficulty.
This guide aims to change all of
that, by going well beyond the basics to show you not just what you
can do with the skill, but what you should do.
I start with an overview of the skill
and tell you whats involved in it generally and why youll
want to train it. I also show you my skill, quest and other recommendations
for success in Herblore. And after that, I do indeed cover the basics
by showing you all the herbs, secondary ingredients, potions and other
items that youll encounter in the skill.
This is only the beginning, however,
because I then move on to show you how to train the skill. I provide
detailed step-by-step instructions for cleaning herbs, making potions
and more. I share with you my best ideas for training efficiently, include
secret methods that can actually make money when others are losing it.
I even describe specific training plans to guide you on your way as
you raise the skill.
Herblore is more than just assembling
potions, though: you also need to know the best ways to get herbs and
other items you need. So I show you the best monsters to kill for herb
drops, and give detailed combat information for the top five primary
herb droppers. I explain different methods of getting vials, and then
give you tons of information on ways of getting all the secondary ingredients
youll need.
As you can see, theres quite
a bit to this simple skillthats why this guide
is so large. I hope you find the wealth of information here helpful,
both as a general reference to the skill, and as a practical training
manual.
