Skills are one of the most important parts of RuneScape; indeed, they probably represent the aspect of the game where a majority of players spend the majority of their time. This is no big surprise, when you consider that advancement in skills paves the way to independence, making money, combat ability, access to new quests and new areas, and much more.

The important role that skills play in RuneScape was the motivation for me to decide to write major, in-depth guides to them here on TruthScape. As I started writing, though, I realized that even though every skill is unique, they all have common elements that I would end up writing about over and over in each of those guides. This was especially true when it came to topics like assessing if a skill makes money, deciding how quickly to level, and understanding how to train efficiently.

For that reason, I chose to write this general guide, which addresses the important issues that are common among all skills; it has four sections. The first is an introduction and overview of RuneScape skills, discussing why skills matter and describing each one in simplified terms. The second gets into the economics of skilling, showing you how to determine if a skill makes money, and methods by which you can sometimes make money even when others do not. The third section is devoted to the subject of training speed, and especially the controversial topic of powerleveling. And finally, the fourth section is chock full of information to help you train effectively, avoid waste, and take advantage of opportunities that arise in your training efforts.
