The giant mole is one of my favorite monsters in RuneScape. The reason is not because it has the best drops, or because it gives the most XP—it is simply because Jagex made the mole challenging to kill without simply making it do a lot of damage like most high-level monsters. The giant mole requires a great deal of thought and planning to kill effectively, which makes it a natural for the TruthScape Monster Secrets series. And while the mole doesn’t have any really special or unique drops, it is one of the best ways to get certain useful items in the game.

In the pages that follow, I will tell you all that you need to know about getting that oversized pest out of the hair of the Falador gardeners. I’ll tell you why you want to kill the mole, what the risks are, and what I recommend you have before you proceed. I’ll show you what the mole looks like, and tell you its vital statistics, strengths and weaknesses. I’ll compare the cost of killing the mole to its typical drops, and discuss some of the challenges it poses to a budding “exterminator”. Then I’ll talk more about getting into its lair and help you deal with one of the major difficulties associated with the mole: other players. Finally, after much research I have devised three workable methods using melee and ranging, as alternatives for you to try.

Incidentally, this guide is designed for the solo mole killer in mind. The mole can also be killed in a group, but that’s very straight-forward—get a bunch of people, attack until it digs, then spread out and keep hitting it—so I didn’t see any need for a guide covering it.

NOTE: The giant mole is not as dangerous as some other very high level monsters, but is still level 230 and not to be trifled with. Don’t go into its lair unless properly prepared.
