The Truth About Luring in RuneScape Some scammers, rather than trying to take items from you through direct item scams like playing games with the trade window, take an indirect approach. They use deceptive tactics to maneuver you into a position where you can be killedby them, by their friends or by monstersso that when you die, they can get your items. This behavior is given a different name than conventional item scamming; due to the tactics used by scammers to lure victims to their deaths, it is called luring. Luring has become a prevalent and very serious problem within RuneScape. It is in many ways much more difficult to educate people about than item scamming, for several reasons: it is more complicated, there are more variations, lurers are often clever, and the legality of this type of scamming can be a confusing subject. This is also another activity that Jagex does not permit to be discussed within RuneScape, which is why I considered it essential to cover it here in detail, so you understand what you are up against. Following the same general pattern as the preceding sections on item scamming and account scamming, I begin with a discussion of Jagex rules and policies on luring, and then give you an overview of luring in general terms. The subsequent two subsections describe in detail luring activities associated with the wilderness; the first discusses illegal lures based on deceiving victims, and the second lures that involve baiting and are technically legal. After that, I describe common lures that occur outside the Wilderness and how you can protect yourself from them. The final subsection details obsolete lures, which are ones that were eliminated from RuneScape by good changes that Jagex has made to the game, such as implementing the Wilderness ditch. WARNING: Jagex has been very inconsistent in its definitions of illegal luring and its enforcement of luring reports. There are some lures that I believe are legal based on my best understanding of Jagex's current position on the matter, but regardless of my classifications, I do not guarantee that you can do these things and avoid punishment. Personally, I consider all lures to be unethical behavior and I recommend that good players engage in none of them. Ignore this recommendation only at your own risk.
