In the other subsections of this section on item scamming, I'll describe the details of common RuneScape scams, and provide specific tips for how to avoid falling victim to them. Before you look at the scams themselves, though, you should carefully read and understand all the topics in this subsection. They are useful general knowledge and apply to most or all of the common scams. This will help you not only avoid the scams that I know about and have described in TruthScape, but the new ones that the cheaters will probably come up with in the future.

In this subsection I hope to give you the basic information you need to understand scams and how to deal with them. I start with an overview of item scamming. I then describe some ways that people make themselves more likely to be scammed, and give you tips on how to avoid them. I tell you what you should do if you fall victim to a scam, and let you know about things that seem like scams but really aren't. Finally, I address one of the biggest puzzles of RuneScape: why doesn't Jagex make the simple changes that would eliminate many common item scams?
