Analysis

Continuing with the “I Get Up, I Get Down” theme, many of the overall categories of items that were on the big winner list last week are now on the big loser list. Notable losing items this week include PvP staples such as sharks, manta rays, kwuarms and super sets. Winners were a hodgepodge of items, some of which make little sense to me; seaweed went up by 23%, but not for any reason I can easily discern...

The big and bizarre story for this week is Saradomin brews, which held the #1 spot for the second week in a row—a rare feat. These potions have not just been surging themselves, but also dragging up with them related items: toadflax herbs and even their seeds (reversing a long decline), and of course, crushed nests. The nests are at the highest prices I’ve ever seen, over 2,500 gp and still rising—they were under 1k a few weeks ago.

I’m not really sure what’s going on here; it may be market manipulation by traders, or just people trying to stock up in anticipation of the arrival of Coinshare. What’s odd is that using brews requires the use of super restores, and those dropped this week. My personal view is that the Sara brew market is way overheated and due for a big correction—soon.

Last week, three of the five big losing indexes were combat-related affordability indexes; and now they are on the winner list. What will happen next week is anyone’s guess. Herb drop values decreased this week due to the reduction of interest in potions, and Cooking got hit hard by a rising spread in raw and cooked fish prices.
