Synopsis of Price and Economic Trends

It was a quiet week in the game, which makes the somewhat dramatic moves in some areas of the market all the more puzzling. The overall TWIRP index fell to its lowest level yet (93.6), mainly due to decreased affordability, while the key items affordability index plummetted by 2.7%, its biggest drop in almost three months. These figures suggest strongly that there was significant price inflation over the last week, and this is supported by the 5:3 ratio of advancing to declining items.

The increases in prices can be seen across the board, but are most notable in a few specific areas. Food is one of them: raw sharks are now over 1,100 gp, which is the highest I’ve ever seen. And then there’s the strange move in weapon poison (++). What’s that all about?

Well, I wasn’t sure myself, so I asked on my forums, and a couple of people clued me in. It turns out that people are buying this poison to use on bolts, not for combat, but for trading. It seems the Grand Exchange has overvalued some type of ammunition, so players are making it as “junk” to counter-balance big-ticket items that are mispriced on the GE. Wow, those price controls sure work well, don’t they?

There doesn’t seem to be anything too exciting coming up in May, so perhaps it will be a rather slow and steady month, but we’ll see.
