Synopsis of Price and Economic Trends

This was mostly a quiet week, with not much happening in the game. The Easter event was released; some players liked it, others did not, and still others didn’t really care one way or the other (present company included.) The economy was also pretty quiet, with not much in the way of fireworks in any particular area.

The downturn I mentioned in the economy last week is, I believe, still underway, though the indexes paused in their downward progression this week. The overall TWIRP index rebounded slightly, from 93.9 to 94.3, an increase of 0.5%. This was led mainly by increases in income, and particularly by correction in the combat area of the game, hard-hit over the previous few weeks.

The biggest area of movement in prices this past week was in gear related to the Bandos area of the God Wars Dungeon. After declining by some 20% the previous week, the Bandos godsword almost exactly retraced those losses this week. Bandos armor also shot higher. These in turn pushed up several related indexes, especially boss monster drop values. The reasons for these changes probably include some combination of market speculation, players getting bored with the GWD, and less interest in Bandos hunting with items at lower levels and Saradomin brews at record prices.

Most players are now eagerly awaiting two still-due updates for this week: Grand Exchange overhauls and the second batch of Summoning familiars. I certainly hope the GE fixes will help make TWIRP easier to do, though I remain somewhat skeptical on that score. As for Summoning, it has nowhere to go but up.
