Crude Volatility Index (TWIRP-X-VOL): 451.9

Now that’s more like it! J Jagex released the second batch of Summoning familiars last week, and the skill now much more closely represents the powerhouse that Jagex represented it to be before its initial release. As you might expect, this has led to a shift, once again, of players from skilling to combat, as everyone seeks out those elusive charms. New markets are also forming for the original Summoning secondary ingredients that are in high demand again, as well as a whole crop of new ones. These aren’t yet reflected in TWIRP but I am tracking their prices “offline” for later inclusion into the indexes (once it becomes more clear which ones are most important.)

The other big news in the past week was the announcement of a new PvP minigame that has much of the game abuzz with excitement. The mere mention of a reward that enhances Runecrafting set off a huge speculative rise in the prices of pure essence and rune essence, resulting in a big hit to the Runecrafting yield index, and in turn, all skilling indexes to a lesser extent.

The overall TWIRP index was mostly flat, dropping 0.4% to 94.9. This was a result of a large drop in skilling, as mentioned, offset somewhat by a more modest rise in combat. Market breadth was mostly positive, and for a week with so many changes, volatility was surprisingly low.
