Synopsis of Price and Economic Trends

The big news this week was the release of the Fist of Guthix minigame. This was touted as a 1v1 PvP minigame to partially replace the Wilderness—and it does, to some extent, though not the way players expected. Even so, a lot of folks flocked to play, and even though the game allows players to mage with free runes, this didn’t have much of an impact on the rune market (though prices of magic robes took off). In fact, the entire market was surprisingly quiet this week overall.

The TWIRP global composite index was almost unchanged, down 0.1% at 94.8. This came as a result of nearly offsetting increases in item cost and income. The key items index was also unchanged.

Many players who had been anticipating big rewards from Fist of Guthix felt let down, especially on the P2P side. This was made most noticeable in the crash in pure essence prices, which were driven up to insane levels on speculation that new runecrafting gloves would revolutionize the skill, but they turned out to only be for low-level runes. This led to a big spike in the Runecrafting skill index (almost 20%) while most other indexes were fairly unchanged.

As I write this, the new Grand Exchange database has been released, which will make these TWIRP reports much easier for me to prepare (finally!) This will also probably also be the last week that I provide large tables of item values, since with that database I don’t think that’s necessary and they take up a lot of space.

For more indexes, reports and analysis, be sure to read the subsections below. Otherwise, see you next week.
