TWIRP Combat and Monster Drop Value Indexes Report and Analysis (2008/03/24)

On this page I examine price trends related to RuneScape combat, through a set of affordability and drop value indexes. Combat affordability measures the ability of combatants to get the gear and supplies they need, and is broken down mainly by combat style. Drop value indexes gauge the economic gain from fighting monsters, showing changes in the value of drops of different monster levels and categories of items.

For further information on these indexes, please see TWIRP Combat Affordability and Drop Value Indexes; if you are not familiar with TWIRP at all, please refer to the TWIRP Quick Guide before proceeding.

Combat Affordability Indexes

Food Affordability (TWIRP-C-FOODa): 78.6 +2.1% p
Potion Affordability (TWIRP-C-POTa): 89.4 +1.0% p
Miscellaneous Item Affordability (TWIRP-C-MISCa): 105.7 -3.0% q

Melee Affordability (TWIRP-C-MELa): 88.5 +0.8% p
Ranged Affordability (TWIRP-C-RNGa): 97.5 -0.1% q
Magic Affordability (TWIRP-C-MAGa): 103.4 +0.2% p

Combat affordability mostly recovered this week—but not by a lot. We’ll see if this ends up being a “dead cat bounce”, which I suspect it is.

Monster Drop Value Indexes

Monster Drop Value (Low-Level) [TWIRP-C-DROP(l)]: 96.6 +0.6% p
Monster Drop Value (Mid-Level) [TWIRP-C-DROP(m)]: 95.8 +0.4% p
Monster Drop Value (High-Level) [TWIRP-C-DROP(h)]: 96.5 +0.4% p
Monster Drop Value (Bosses) [TWIRP-C-DROP(b)]: 92.2 +3.4% p

Monster Drop Value (TWIRP-C-DROP): 95.9 +0.7% p

Well, now that is a correction, folks. J Led almost entirely by the Bandos item price surge, we saw a 3.4% boost in the value of boss item drop value, with other levels posting much more modest gains.

Monster Drop Value Type Subindexes

Gem Drop Value (TWIRP-C-DROP-GEM): 92.5 +4.8% p
Herb Drop Value (TWIRP-C-DROP-HERB): 145.6 -3.7% q
High-Level Herb Drop Value (TWIRP-C-DROP-HHERB): 108.4 -2.5% q
Herb Seed Drop Value (TWIRP-C-DROP-HSEED): 29.7 +7.3% pp
High-Level Herb Seed Drop Value (TWIRP-C-DROP-HHSEED): 68.0 +11.6% ppp
Allotment Seed Drop Value (TWIRP-C-DROP-ASEED): 74.5 -1.7% q

The interesting trend in seeds that I mentioned last week continued and even accelerated this week, with both high-level and low-level seeds seeing increased demand. Of course, many had been driven down to very low levels, but it was still nice to see. Herb drop value went down, while gems seem to alternate up and down weeks lately.
