TWIRP Combat and Monster Drop Value Indexes Report and Analysis (2008/03/10)

On this page I examine price trends related to RuneScape combat, through a set of affordability and drop value indexes. Combat affordability measures the ability of combatants to get the gear and supplies they need, and is broken down mainly by combat style. Drop value indexes gauge the economic gain from fighting monsters, showing changes in the value of drops of different monster levels and categories of items.

For further information on these indexes, please see TWIRP Combat Affordability and Drop Value Indexes; if you are not familiar with TWIRP at all, please refer to the TWIRP Quick Guide before proceeding.

Combat Affordability Indexes

Food Affordability (TWIRP-C-FOODa): 83.7 -5.1% qq
Potion Affordability (TWIRP-C-POTa): 90.2 -4.7% q
Miscellaneous Item Affordability (TWIRP-C-MISCa): 110.0 -0.9% q

Melee Affordability (TWIRP-C-MELa): 91.3 -4.1% q
Ranged Affordability (TWIRP-C-RNGa): 99.1 -1.6% q
Magic Affordability (TWIRP-C-MAGa): 103.8 -0.4% q

Nothing to say here that I haven’t said already earlier in this report: rises in combat supply prices moved the market this week.

Monster Drop Value Indexes

Monster Drop Value (Low-Level) [TWIRP-C-DROP(l)]: 95.7 -0.1% q
Monster Drop Value (Mid-Level) [TWIRP-C-DROP(m)]: 94.7 +0.1% p
Monster Drop Value (High-Level) [TWIRP-C-DROP(h)]: 95.1 -0.5% q
Monster Drop Value (Bosses) [TWIRP-C-DROP(b)]: 90.6 -0.8% q

Monster Drop Value (TWIRP-C-DROP): 94.7 -0.3% q

Monster drop value continues to slump as a result of increased numbers of PvM combatants. As predicted, boss item values are diverging downward at a higher speed than other monster drop value types, and this should be expected to continue.

Monster Drop Value Type Subindexes

Gem Drop Value (TWIRP-C-DROP-GEM): 94.7 +5.0% p
Herb Drop Value (TWIRP-C-DROP-HERB): 141.6 -0.3% q
High-Level Herb Drop Value (TWIRP-C-DROP-HHERB): 104.6 +1.8% p
Herb Seed Drop Value (TWIRP-C-DROP-HSEED): 27.9 -0.3% q
High-Level Herb Seed Drop Value (TWIRP-C-DROP-HHSEED): 57.9 +6.2% pp
Allotment Seed Drop Value (TWIRP-C-DROP-ASEED): 77.2 -2.2% q

Gems did well this week, led up mainly by the increased demand for enchanted diamond bolts. Most other indexes were little changed.
