Boy, after reading about all those scams in preceding sections, you might start to think that all of RuneScape consists of nothing but nasty scammers trying to take your gold and equipment! Fortunately, that's not the case: most RuneScape players are friendly, and some are even willing to perform valuable services for you for free, so they can get experience for it. As long as you take the appropriate steps to protect yourself, this can be a great way of getting items you couldn't get otherwise, perhaps because you don't have the skill levels needed to make them.

In this section, I will describe how to tell good players and scammers apart. I show you how to safely work with players who want to perform services for you, or perform those services for others, especially by using the new RuneScape Assist System. I also used to discuss here the anti-scam method for trading unidentified herbs, but since these have been eliminated from the game, that method is now obsolete. Unfinished potions are now easier to trade safely than they were when all unfinished potions had the same name, but there are still a few concerns there, which I discuss in this section.
