PKer Backstabbing and Clan Setups Another topic on the Wilderness, and another paradox. This time, consider the following: if a lurer lies to a victim to entice him to go into the Wilderness and then kills him, that's considered illegal item scamming and is reportable under Rule #2. However, if the lurer tells someone a lie about wanting to go PKing with him, and he agrees and enters the Wild to go PKing, the lurer can then turn on the victim and kill him legally. This charming behavior is called backstabbing. For the purposes of understanding the rules, there is indeed a subtle but important difference between these two types of lures, and it has to do with intent. In the first case, the victim was not interested in entering the Wild to go PKing; in the second, the victim was. If you enter the Wild to PK, then if you get killed as a result, it is your own problem. And while backstabbing may not be very nice, well, neither is the Wilderness as a whole. (Live by the sword, die by the sword, I guess you could say.) The most common type of lure is the one I described above. A lurer will approach a player approximately his level (or a little below) and ask if the player wants to team with him to go PKing. Once he finds a victim, the two will go into the Wild looking for someone to kill. As soon as the lurer considers the timing to his advantagefor example, after the victim is weakened from another fighthe backstabs him and takes everything he drops. Similar variations involve people who say they want to team up not to PK, but to do other activities in the Wilderness. Examples include runecrafting via the Abyss, doing treasure trails, killing green dragons and mining runite. Again, if you enter the Wild of your own volition, you can be killed and it is not illegal. A more obnoxious variation involves PKing clans that induct new members solely for the purpose of backstabbing them. Clan leaders will welcome the new member and invite the person to go on a clan PKing trip, but will have secretly told the other members that the person is to be betrayed. At the right time, usually in a multicombat area, the clan turns on the victim and slaughters him. Nice, huh? And all perfectly legal. Remember: there is no honor among thievesand PKers are a lot worse. Don't trust people in the Wild unless you know them very well, and that definitely includes clans.
