Obsolete Lures

In my discussion of the goals of TruthScape, I mention that one reason why I started TruthScape was that I hoped it would lead to changes in the game. Well, I’m pleased to say that Jagex began making substantial changes to address various luring problems only a few weeks after I published this site, most notably the new ditch that separates the Wilderness from the regular world. These fixes make me very happy, since it means fewer people will be tricked out of their items and gold. It also, however, forces me to rewrite sections of TruthScape, since there are several types of lures that are simply no longer possible. This is a good reason to redo work, though! J

In this final subsection I have collected the details of these now “obsolete lures”, which are ones that used to be common in RuneScape but have been eliminated due to changes made to the game. Many of these are due to the Wilderness ditch, which has done more to stop Wilderness luring than anything Jagex had ever done before; there are also other changes that, for example, finally removed common lures involved player owned houses. Rather than delete the pages describing the lures that have now been stopped, I am saving them in a separate area for historical purposes, and also mentioning why they are now obsolete.

This subsection begins with a description of places that used to be popular luring spots; these were eliminated by the Wilderness ditch. I then describe one of the most common former methods for trade luring, and another old scam that used to be quite commonly done involving a fake drop party. I conclude with a comprehensive look at former scams related to player-owned houses, some of which involved bug abuse, and others that tricked the victim into make a mistake that killed him.
