Nasty Tricks with Edible Rares The final trade window scam I'm going to describe here is different than the others. It isn't used by someone to cheat you out of gold or items; in fact, the scammer gains nothing from it at all. This is purely a spiteful trick that nasty people sometimes try for fun. Of the various discontinued rare items in RuneScape, two are foods: Easter eggs and pumpkins. These are like other foods in that the default left-click option is to eat them. Of course, they are worth millions, so eating them is the last thing you want to do. The dirty trick is pulled on people who are trying to sell these items. The scammer will trade you to open the trade window. Then the scammer will try to close the window (by hitting Decline) just as you are reaching to click the pumpkin or Easter egg to add it to the trade. If the scammer gets the timing right, what will happen is this. You move the mouse to the edible rare, then click it, to add it to the trade window. However, since the scammer hit Decline, the window will disappear just before you click. You will now be back in the regular RuneScape interface, and when you finish the click of your mouse, the default eat action will activate and you'll eat your pumpkin or Easter egg. The way to avoid this obnoxious trick is to always note edible rares when removing them from the bank. This will also prevent you from accidentally eating it in other ways.
