Making Potions Efficiently Alright! Weve got our vials filled, herbs cleaned and secondary ingredients ground up (if necessary)now its time to make some potions! And Ill show you exactly how to do this quickly and with a minimum of fuss. Since Jagex added a Make X function to potion making in 2007, making potions is really quite simple to do, but good technique still matters. Note that you can also use skill boosters or the Assist System if you need to make potions above your level. I describe these in the topic on cleaning grimy herbs. The goal with making potions is to assemble them with as little overhead as possible, and that means minimizing the time spent taking components out of the bank and putting finished product back in. With 28 inventory slots, there are two good approaches that most players use:
These are fairly similar in terms of the amount of time and effort required, which is why both are used. In my tests, though, the two-step method was slightly faster: it took 45 seconds to make 14 potions, versus about 33 seconds to make 9 potions with the one-step technique. This means you can make about 100 more potions per hour with the two-step method. That, and the fact that it involves less clicking, make the two-step method my preference, but you can use the one-step if you prefer. (One-step is also better, of course, for making small numbers of potions.) As always, start by going to a single-click bank, such as the chest at Castle Wars or in the Lumbridge Castle basement. Empty your inventory and then find the items you are going to use for the potions, and move them so they are close to each other in your bankyou dont want to waste time scrolling around in your bank interface. For the first batch, withdraw 14 vials of water. This is the fastest way: right-click and select Withdraw 10, then left-click four times to take out four more. Then withdraw 14 herbs, by right-clicking and choosing Withdraw All. If the herbs are grimy, first click each one to clean it. Now do the actual potion-making as follows:
Very simple stuff. Again, it will take you about 45 seconds per load, so 1,100 potions or so per hour (assuming no lost time for whatever reason.) If you prefer the one-step method, no problem! Again, start at Castle Wars or the Lumbridge basement, and ensure that all the ingredients you need are near each other in your bank. Then proceed as follows:
This will take about 33 seconds per load. I do not recommend it for potions with multiple seconds. In Figure 158 you can see an example of me starting to make some super strength potions.
