Forum Trade Luring One of the most common ways that lurers used to trick victims was by using the RuneScape forums (or a third-party forum) to initiate a fake trade. Either the scammer would post the ad, or would reply to a legitimate ad from a real buyer or seller. In both cases, the lurer would try to get the victim to come to a place like Edgeville, then trick him into going into the Wild to be killed, either by himself or an accomplice. These lures used to exploit all of the many problems with the Wilderness boundary prior to the ditch: the lack of a clear indicator of where the Wild began; the warning message that only appeared once and cleared itself automatically; and the existence of places where shortcuts had to be taken through the Wild. The ditch has all but eliminated most of these lures by solving those problems; I describe how they used to work, with an example, in the topic on forum trade luring before the ditch. Forum trade luring has mostly been neutered, but it isnt necessarily gone altogether. The reason is that while the ditch separates the Wilderness from the regular RuneScape world, there is a small non-Wilderness strip just north of the ditch. You may encounter a lurer who will try to convince you to meet in this safe area for a trade. Well, despite that common name, this area is not safe. The purpose of that little region is to allow PKers to exit the Wild before crossing back over the ditchnot for it to be a place for people to trade. So let me re-emphasize this: never, under any circumstances, cross the Wilderness ditch to complete a trade. Follow that rule, and you never need worry about this particular lure.
