Door Opening and Closing Tricks and Scams Ah, Jagex and their doors. If you've played for any length of time, you've probably been irritated more than once by doors on buildings that close by themselves and you have to open to get in or out. Well, it's even more annoying when players themselves keep closing the doorsespecially when they do it to put others in danger. As we'll see, sometimes them even opening doors can be hazardous. There are two different kinds of schemes that lurers may use that relate to doors. One is a flat-out item scam and illegal, while the other is merely obnoxious and probably not reportable. Here are how some of the variations work. I'll illustrate them using one popular location where many different door scams are seen: the blue dragon cage in the basement of the Heroes' Guild. The first method involves a lurer who convinces a victim to go into a dangerous area or attack a difficult monster, and then closes the door behind him so he can't get out. There are many places where this can be done; it all depends on the level of the victim. In the case of the Heroes' Guild, the lurer may tell the victim to go into the cage when the dragon has recently been killed and there is loot on the ground, telling him he'll be safe. Or, he may make up some other excuse to get the victim in there. The lurer then keeps closing the door behind the victim until the dragon respawns and kills him. Since this involves deliberate lying, I believe that it is reportable. The second trick is to just close a door behind someone who is in combat so they cannot escape. This is also sometimes seen at the blue dragon cage (Figure 123), but if the person closing the door is just doing that and not misrepresenting anything, I don't believe it is illegal. Another example is when people try to trap others in rooms with random event monsters; I have seen this in the room with the range next to the bank in Catherby. It can be very frustrating to be stuck in a small room with an evil chicken, and the people who close the door are detestable for doing this, but it's not against the rules (at least right now).
Finally, in certain places a lurer can actually cause problems for a player by opening doors, as this may allow a monster to attack the victim in a spot he thought would be safe. Again, the blue dragon cage applies, because in some circumstances opening the gate can result in a person attacking the dragon with a halberd being hit with a vicious fire breath attack. Another place where this happens is the Fire Giant lair under the waterfall, where annoying people will open the doors to let shadow spiders in to attack rangers fighting the giants. Since, again, this does not involve deliberate deception, it is not reportable. Your ability to avoid or get out of these predicaments depends on the exact nature of the situation. Above all, do not panic! For example, some people who get stuck in the blue dragon cage freak out and forget that there is a safe spot in the southern part of the cage where the dragon can't get yougo there and you can teleport or switch worlds. If you are stuck in a small area where you cannot hide, then keep trying to click the door open and run out, while watching your health. Sometimes you can get out by clicking on the ground outside the door, which will let you sneak out when the person closing the door on you mistimes his clicks. In the case of twits who keep opening doors to let monsters in, just change worlds.
