Collecting Jungle Herbs

There are five special herbs in RuneScape that are generally considered distinct from regular herbs; they are used in the Jungle Potion quest, and as such as usually called jungle herbs. These herbs are different in most respects from regular herbs: they are untradeable, they are obtained as spawns hidden within game features (rather than as drops or by Farming) and they are also rarely used.

The five jungle herbs are ardrigal, rogue’s purse, sito foil, snake weed and volencia moss. Of these, only two are used in potions (rogue’s purse and snake weed). Ardrigal plays a role in the Legends Quest, and otherwise, they have no use other than completing Jungle Potion. However, I decided to include information on gathering them, just in case you need to get them for the quest or any other reason.

Below I give directions for the most efficient ways of getting the five herbs in sequence, starting from a place in “civilization”. If you are only after a particular herb then you’ll obviously take a different approach, and I mention below alternative methods of getting directly to herbs without going through all five in order. Please refer to the overview map in Figure 200 as you read the descriptions.

Each herb can be found by searching the appropriate map feature, as indicated, except rogue’s purse which is harvested from walls within a cavern.

Preparation

All of the herbs are simple spawns, so you don’t need to fight anything to get them. However, there are aggressive monsters you must pass through to get to certain herbs. They are as high as level 53, so you should be prepared to possibly be attacked if your combat level is 106 or lower.

In general, you want to wear weight-reducing items to allow you to run from place to place. Avoid wearing armor unless you are very low level, as this will slow you down; just bring with a bit of food. Higher-level players don’t need to bother even with that.

If you are level 88 or below, bring an antipoison potion to protect against the level 32 tribesmen—they have potent poison!

You’ll also need a lunar staff or dramen staff, as we’re going to use the fairy ring network. And you should also bring a teleport out for when you are done, to save time (a jewelry-based one is easiest.)

Getting Snake Weed

Teleport to Edgeville and then run east, over the bridge and south to the fairy ring there. Teleport to Zanaris, then click the fairy ring again and enter code “C K R”. You’ll find yourself in western Karamja, near the northwest corner of the town of Shilo Village. The horned graahk hunting area is near here as well.

Run straight west and go right to the coast. On the shore you will find some odd looking green-and-yellow plants called marshy jungle vines. Search each one and you’ll get a grimy snake weed. It takes about seven seconds to get each one, and the respawn time is a full minute, so you won’t be getting a lot of these!

Getting Sito Foil

After getting the snake weed, run northeast and you’ll find a land bridge with big rocks on either side; cross it. (If you are coming straight from the C K R fairy ring area, just run northwest.) A little ways to the northeast you’ll find a fenced-in area with tables: run north through it.

Just before the southern fence of Tai Bwo Wannai, you’ll see two fires burning and three areas of “scorched earth”. Searching each of these three spots will reveal one grimy sito foil.

Getting Volencia Moss

If you were in the spot where sito foil is, run straight east, through the jungle, until you get to the mine near the entrance to the Runecrafting nature altar. If you are coming from the C K R fairy ring, run northeast to this spot.

The three northeastern rocks in this mine aren’t real mining rocks; they have a “Search” option instead of “Mine” and “Prospect”. Search them to get grimy volencia moss.

Getting Ardrigal

From the mine where you got the volencia moss, run nearly due north through the jungle until it opens up into a sandy area. You will see harpie bug swarms here; don’t attack them (you need a special lantern to fight them). Go northeast and you’ll find a peninsula with several tall palm trees on it. Search them to get grimy ardrigal.

If you are coming straight here, you have several options:

  • Take the C K R fairy ring location and run northeast.

  • Teleport to Ardougne, take the boat to Brimhaven, then run south and east (I believe the fairy ring is faster).

  • If your house is in Brimhaven then teleport home, click your exit portal, and run east.

  • Get a mithril grapple, then teleport to Karamja using an amulet of glory and run southwest to the coast. There you will find a grapple shortcut that takes you across the strait there (via an island) right to the peninsula.
Getting Rogue’s Purse

From the peninsula where you got ardrigal, run due west, hugging the coastline; you’ll notice a high embankment south of you. Continue until you find a dungeon entrance set back from the coast; this appears as a set of rocks with a “Search” option. Search the rocks and you’ll find a cave entrance; agree to enter the cave and soon you’ll be in a cavern with many level 53 jogres.

Run south and look around on the walls of the cave to find green spots labeled “Fungus covered Cavern wall”. Click to search them and you’ll (eventually) get some grimy rogue’s purse (Figure 201). There are many of these spawns, so you can get lots of rogue’s purse if you want them. When you’re done, teleport out.

Figure 201: Getting Rogue’s Purse

Simply search the green areas on the walls to get rogue’s purse; they will then turn brown until they respawn. Watch out for the jogres!

There’s no direct route to this area; you pretty go right past the area where the ardrigal is. Refer above for ways to get to the ardrigal spot, then run west to find the cave.
