Account Sharing (Giving Your Password to RuneScape Friends)

Let's start with the simplest way that some victims get their accounts stolen: freely giving their passwords to friends. Now, of course, you probably know that as soon as you give anyone your password, they have the ability to take your account from you. It's such an obviously bad idea that you'd assume nobody would do this, but you'd be surprised...

So why would someone give someone else in the game their password? Usually they feel they can trust the person because he or she is a “friend”; occasionally it might even be a RuneScape “boyfriend” or “girlfriend”. This mistake is more often made by people who give their passwords to friends or relatives outside the game, but it happens within the game as well. Even real life friends can betray you, and as I explain elsewhere in TruthScape, friends you make online are far less trustworthy. So you are taking a major risk in sharing your password.

It appears that this page is going to be very short. Why? Well, what can I say about this other than “don't do it”? J Your password is the only thing protecting your account from being stolen; if you give it to a “friend” online then there's a good chance you'll lose your account. You may also notice that RuneScape itself now will block attempts to give out your password within the game—there’s a good reason for that!

Still not convinced? Well, would it help if I told you it is against the rules and could get you banned from RuneScape? Your account is for your use only, and the rule against account sharing is intended both to prevent cheating and to reduce the chances of your account being stolen.
